A power trowel, also known as a power float or trowel machine, is a construction tool used to create a smooth, dense, and level finish on large concrete surfaces such as floors, pavements, and slabs. It significantly speeds up the finishing process compared to manual troweling.
Main Purposes of a Power Trowel:
1. Smoothing Concrete Surfaces
After the concrete has been poured and partially set, a power trowel is used to flatten and smooth the surface for a professional-grade finish.
2. Compacting the Concrete
The rotating blades apply pressure that compacts the surface layer, improving the concrete’s strength and durability.
3. Removing Imperfections
Power trowels help eliminate surface bumps, ridges, or air bubbles, leaving a polished and even finish.
4. Increasing Surface Hardness
Especially in industrial settings, a well-troweled surface reduces wear and tear, making it ideal for warehouses, garages, and high-traffic areas.
5. Prepping for Final Finishes
It prepares the concrete for coatings, paints, sealers, or flooring installation by creating a consistent base.
There are two main types of power trowels:
Walk-behind (for small to medium areas)
Ride-on (for large surfaces)
